MPA are retained by an established Autism Services provider to recruit for an Occupational Therapist in Toronto. The client develops and delivers clinical services for children and families with ASD through their two clinics in Toronto.

The multidisciplinary team includes therapists, early childhood educators, speech language pathologist, therapists, developmental paediatricians, psychiatrists, psychologists and social workers.

In this role, you will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team supporting children and youth with an Autism diagnosis and their families with an identified urgent need to prevent further escalation of risk or harm to a child or youth, other people or property based on the identification of key high-risk factors.
You will support families by providing community resources, conducting assessments, creating individualized plans that address needs, and provide consultation to the service team, child/youth and/or family on how to implement strategies as suggested in the plan.


Responsibilities  

  • Provide assessment, treatment, consultation and/or service planning for individuals with ASD (community based and clients’ homes)
  • Conduct assessments and collaborate with families and the service team to develop a comprehensive plan that addresses the needs of the child/youth as it relates to the realm of occupational therapy 
  • Provide educational services to staff and agencies/stakeholders to support individuals with Autism
  • Program and service development and evaluation for Occupational Therapy services
  • Attend, contribute, advocate and inform at OAP URS meetings, and others as appropriate 
  • Provide any related resources to clients as appropriate 
     

Requirements

  • Graduate degree in Occupational Therapy
  • Registered with the College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario
  • 1 year work experience in a similar role
  • Previous experience working with children with developmental disabilities and/or Autism an asset
  • Demonstrated understanding of early childhood education, autism and applied behaviour analysis
  • Knowledge and application of the Occupational Therapy framework, philosophy and theory, administration and interpretation of standardized and non-standardized assessments, knowledge of development (typical/non-typical), of augmentative communication/writing assessments, intervention strategies application of technology, and of appropriate Occupational Therapy intervention strategies and techniques
